What happens at Ferrari club gathering ?

With just 29 of 57 laps completed in the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro teammates Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were racing in second and third positions on the twisty 3.36-mile Valencia, Spain, road course.

And, the dozen or so members of Ferrari Club of America’s Las Vegas Chapter, who were gathered on a recent Sunday morning at Siena Italian Authentic Trattoria, 9500 W. Sahara Ave., to watch the event were cautiously optimistic about the revered manufacturer’s prospects.

“We try to hold a social every month,” said club President Paul Hesselgesser, adding that the Las Vegas Chapter currently boasts about 52 members. “Our summer attendance varies because of vacations and such, but we also host a midsummer barbecue and every year we organize an excursion to Mount Charleston.” (more…)

Snowy driving style in Chicago

Since winter started this weekend with a blanket of snow I thought I would offer some top driving tips for how to drive in the snow and ice, in blizzards and generally Chicago style in the winter so you get where you need to go whatever the weather is like. This is also important for safety since driving in blizzards and snow conditions can be very dangerous. That said, I am not a professional driver in any way. I’m just someone who lives in Chicago and hears about people in other areas who are curious about how it is that we can drive through all this snowy weather. (we had about 60 inches of snow in the winter of 2007-2008 in Chicago, that is 5 feet! Crazy!) (more…)

Passes slippery snow road

If snow hits your streets and you’re not used to it, your first slide can be terrifying. Here’s what to do if you find yourself thrown off your course by the slick white stuff: steer where you’re going, and don’t brake hard.

Wired’s How-To Wiki provides a great crash course in everything you need to know about winter driving. Pack a winter emergency car kit, prep your car before heading out, and drive slowly, above all else. When you do hit a skid, though, you might have to fight a few of your instincts to get the best, most safe result:

If you start to slide, take your foot off the accelerator, but don’t hit the brakes. (If you’re driving a manual transmission vehicle, take your foot off the gas, don’t hit the brakes, but fully depress the clutch pedal.) (more…)

Guide of driving in snow gear

When you are all dressed up in your warm winter gear heading out the door to go snowboarding, it might be important to know how to drive in snow gear. It is a lot of work to get all those winter clothes on. For those of you who prefer to dress for snowboarding at the luxury of your home instead of at the slopes, here are some important tips to remember when driving with snow gear on.

Drive safely while there is snow chains on front tires?

Snow chains are used in wintry weather in the nation’s colder climates. Not necessarily for use on highways or everyday driving, snow chains provide traction in the most dangerous of winter conditions and are at times required for safe passage. Learning how and where you put the chains on your car can make you a safer driver this winter.

  1. Putting on the Chains

    • If the weather promises to be bad enough that you’ve decided to use snow chains, you first need to figure out where they go. Snow chains are designed to be put on the tires that do the driving on your car; that is, if you have a front-drive vehicle, the chains go on the front wheels. If you have a rear-drive car, the chains go on the back tires. So, snow chains may be put on just the front tires, but only if the vehicle is front drive or all-wheel drive. (more…)

How to drive defensively

Defensive Driving is essentially driving in a manner that utilizes safe driving strategies to enables motorists to address identified hazards in a predictable manner. These strategies go well beyond instruction on basic traffic laws and procedures.

With defensive driving classes, students learn to improve their driving skills by reducing their driving risks by anticipating situations and making safe well-informed decisions. Such decisions are implemented based on road and environmental conditions present when completing a safe driving maneuver.

Benefits of Defensive Driving

The benefits of taking a defensive driving class vary with each state, but often include a reduction of points on your driver’s license following a ticket and the assurance that insurance rates will not increase.
