Ferrari does not share with New Lancia Stratos

The new Lancia Stratos surprised everyone. Nobody expected the manufacturer now known for producing rebadged Chrysler 300s to reproduce its legendary wedge-shaped Group B rally rocket Stratos. The one off, commissioned by Italian styling house Pininfarina for former racing driver and collector Michael Stoscheck using a Ferrari F430 chassis and engine, was supposed to be just that—a one off. Within days of its unveiling, Pininfarina received over 40 commitments from customers who wanted a new Stratos to call their own and had decided on producing a limited run. That won’t be happening anymore because it doesn’t look like Ferrari’s too keen on sharing with its Lancia stable mate. (more…)

Practical tips for winter tires

At this time of year, people are busy shovelling, preparing for the holidays, and preparing for another season of treacherous winter driving. One of the biggest safeguards against the effects of the elements on the highways is a set of winter tires.

If you haven’t already purchased a set of winter tires for your ride, then you should get it done as soon as possible. Tire manufacturers make a limited quantity of winter tires every year, based on the sales of the previous year. Once they are sold out, they are not manufactured again until next season.

If you have ever shopped for a set of tires, you know that it can be a very intimidating task. When faced with advertising, differing opinions and theories, and of course so many choices, it can be hard to make a confident decision as to the right tire for you. It is important to do your homework to make sure that you get the right tire for the right price. The best defense is to arm yourself with as much information as possible. Development for race car technology

After McLaren’s rather innovative unveiling of the MP4-26 at Berlin, all the major championship contenders now know how the other’s car looks like. But because of the secrecy that is inherent to Formula 1, no one quite knows how fast the other will eventually go because it’s too early to tell if all the bells and whistles that make up an F1 car will work properly.

Testing at Valencia gave the world a small glimpse of what the future promises but every fan would agree that topping practice at this stage of the season is most likely down to the top teams playing their cards close to their chest rather than an indication of the real world order.

What is apparent however is that teams have chosen radical paths in the design of their cars to make up for the change in regulations. The FIA’s attempts at preventing teams from using the Aerodynamic tricks from last year seems to have only encouraged them to think even more radically as the Renault R31 and McLaren MP4 -26 have revealed.
